MAKE-A-WISH EAST TENNESSEE
Make-A-Wish® East Tennessee has earned numerous awards since 2011 in the following categories. Fundraising Performance Award for 2011 - 2013. Mission Outstanding Performance Award for granting the most wishes throughout a year during its beginnings in 2011-2112. Benchmark of Excellence Award in 2013 and the Make-A-Wish America Wish Granting Award in 2014.
In 2012, the East Tennessee chapter earned top honors at the national organization’s 2012 conference in Phoenix. They took home the Infinite Wish Award, which recognizes a single wish that demonstrates how a community can draw together to fulfill a child’s dream. Michelle Stratton, A local teenager with Cystic Fibrosis, wished to be a country singer at her own concert. Partnering with United Healthcare and band Amber Fults and the Ambivalent Lovers, as well as other local businesses, the organization not only put on a concert attended by 600 people, but also provided the full star treatment of voice lessons, limousine service, a concert wardrobe, hair & make up, and her own dressing room filled with countless gifts and autographed CDs from many famous country music stars such as Kenny Chesney. Kenny also gave a personally autographed guitar to Michelle which was presented to her on stage during her performance! Then to top it off...a VIP reception that all took place at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Fine Arts Center. Words can't describe the positive energy that surrounded this amazing wish event. I would have to say it was even better than if it were a famous celebrity concert. Michelle truly was a famous celebrity in her own right and became a STAR on this special night when her wish was fulfilled. *see pictures in slideshow
* MICHELLE earned her angel wings on December 24, 2014. Michelle will forever be in my heart and is now singing with the angels in heaven.
Make-A-Wish East Tennessee has been granting wishes since 1988. 2013 not only marked their 25th Anniversary, but In August they celebrated their 1000th WISH! In attendance was Joey, their very first WISH child who is now of course a grown man and a cancer survivor. The 1000th wish child Cooper was to receive his wish of a Labradoodle puppy, but could not be there since he was recovering from surgery in Pittsburgh. However, Joey presented the puppy named Oakley to Cooper's family on his behalf. The next day the Make-A-Wish Staff traveled to Pittsburgh along with Cooper's grandfather and they presented the puppy to Cooper! *see pictures in slideshow
Meet Peter Rosset, a Wish Kid whose wish was to perform in his own classical piano concert. Peter received his wish and performed beautifully in front of a cheering audience...and In 2014, Peter provided the entertainment for the Annual Waltz for Wishes in Knoxville, TN benefitting Make-A-Wish East Tennessee. Here's the piece he performed titled 'Lyric Rhapsody' by Mary Leaf...and it was my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE from his selections! So much so that it gave me goose bumps.
Peter was born with Down Syndrome. In July of 2011 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. But that never stopped him from his love for music and learning to play the piano BEAUTIFULLY!! All who knew Peter instantly fell in love with his infectious enthusiasm, just as I did.
* PETER earned his angel wings on June 27, 2015. This joyful soul will forever occupy a special place in my heart. He's now playing all his beautiful melodies on that grand piano in the sky.
